Wait. How does the forgetting spell work?

Marvel/Sony

The ending can be explained, we can review everything and we can talk about what on earth is the golden ratio. But there are some questions Spider-Man: No Way Home poses that, for better or worse, keep the mind incomprehensible.

If you’ve also wondered why no one talks about a certain universe’s Uncle Ben or how the ongoing logistics of some of the movie’s plot devices work, you’re not alone.

Let’s dive into all the big questions that Spider-Man: No Way Home had us waiting for. (Note: We don’t necessarily have answers.)

spoiler warning

1. Reformed Villains

Marvel/Sony

When the villains were sent back to their own universes, did they go to the incidents they would have died in (but events turned out differently)? Or did they return to the same points where the Peter Parkers left (years after their deaths) and had to resume their old lives?

If it’s the former, then the events in those timelines would have changed a lot. Norman Osborn would be alive after the events of 2002’s Spider-Man, so his son Harry would not have revenge on Spidey. Harry would not have funded Otto Octavius’ research in Spider-Man 2, so Doc Ock would never have existed (although Ock’s accident could have happened anyway).

It would have been less confusing if they returned to their universes the moment Peter left, but that would have been difficult in a different way for Norman – his son would be dead and who knows what shape his company would be in.

2. $$$

Marvel Studios

How is the MCU Peter making money if no one remembers he exists? Could he be selling Spider-Man pictures to J. Jonah Jameson?!

3. Magic can and should not

Sony

After the oblivion spell, would it ruin the whole spell if Peter told someone he knew about their story?

4. On the back of Venom

Sony images

Is there an Eddie Brock MCU?

5. GMP

Marvel/Sony

Where is the MCU’s Uncle Ben buried? He is mentioned in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Peter has a suitcase with Ben’s initials in Far From Home, but Aunt May’s grave doesn’t appear to be next to it.

6. Mary Jane by Shailene Woodley

HBO

Does Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane exist in Andrew Garfield Peter Parker’s universe? Their scenes were cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but it would be nice if they stayed together off-screen.

7. May there be more carnage

Sony images

So we’re definitely not going to see Spider-Man fight Venom? Also, has the symbiote forgotten Spider-Man or will it remember him again when it connects to the hive mind?

8. Flash Thompson, author

Marvel/Sony

Will Flash Thompson’s book about being friends with Peter Parker now be just a work of fiction?

9. All hail Wong

Wonder

If Wong is Sorcerer Supreme now, why does he need to fix fights like in Shang-Chi?
