A 13-year-old girl was in critical condition on Monday night, July 25, after being shot in a backyard on Fowler Street. Evanston Police are asking anyone with any information to contact them at 847-866-5000 or -5040.
Evanston Police Commander Ryan Glew and public information officers said the girl was taken to a local hospital where she was in critical condition.
Glew alerted the public about the shooting in a series of seven tweets between 8:19 pm and 10:07 pm, explaining that officers went to the Fowler Street backyard around 6:20 pm and found the girl with a gunshot wound.
The second tweet read: “Initial investigation revealed that an unknown offender fired a gun over a fence into a yard occupied by several teenagers,” and that the 13-year-old was the person known to be injured.
Police have not made any arrests and are advising people who do not live in the area to avoid him.
Just before 10:30 pm on Monday, Fowler Street was still closed off by EPD vehicles, and a North Region Serious Crimes Task Force truck was present.
