Here’s the hole. Ugly news shelves: gone. Evanston City Council voted this week to get rid of 15 city-owned publishing distributors like this one under Davis Street Metra Station. The city provided the metal boxes starting in 2014 to help organize the sidewalks. At the time, 36 publications were sold or distributed in nearly 300 locations. Last year, only six publishers used the shelves. Now they will need to buy their own racks and get a license. (Photo by Richard Cahan)
